Heiwado Karate Center (HKC) is well known in the tri-county area for its quality karate instruction that is based on traditional Japanese martial arts combined with modern training methods and modern self-defense. Our strong emphasis on a students’ mental development through Shotokan Karate builds our student's confidence and teaches discipline, focus, leadership, patience, and respect. Karate also provides a means to physical fitness and self-defense while encouraging self-development.

Who can benefit from Karate?

You! Even if you feel you are overweight, uncoordinated, inflexible, or lacking self confidence or self discipline, you may have the most to gain by training. Of course results should not be expected overnight, but if you train on a regular basis and stay with it, you will begin to see improvement. Nothing of real value is ever obtained with ease. All kinds of people benefit from Karate training.

Our Mission

Heiwado Karate Center (HKC), a branch off of Japan International Karate Center (JIKC) in Honolulu, Hawaii, studies and practices Shotokan Karate while also incorporating key techniques and skills from Wado-Ryu, Goju-Ryu, and Shito-Ryu. The characters 平 和 道 translate into "The way of the peaceful palm".

The core principles of Heiwado Karate Center are to give students Confidence, teach Discipline, Focus, Leadership, Patience, and Respect for oneself and others. When learning Heiwa-do Karate, you are not just learning self-defense, but how to be a model student and/or citizen to the community.

Heiwado Karate Center aims to evolve its self-defense system by using modern training methods and self-defense techniques. This means we are dedicated to ensuring that our techniques actually work and that we're not a "McDojo."

By keeping traditional training methods and combining more modern methods, we want to be able to simulate and practice self-defense situations rather than just the techniques. So you won't see staged sparring or self-defense as you advance in learning the system.
